BLEEDING HEART

If you're poor and you don't know it.
A social worker will happily show it.
She won't improve your worldly plight
But social workers think they've the right,
To poke and pry and stir up dissension,
To tally the don't haves and add hypertension.

God in His Wisdom made both good and bad,
Created the kind and scurrilous cad.
He shapes petal and tree leaf and warms
with His palm,
The tinniest life form between dark and dawn.
God made the wealthy; poor people as well.
If each stood stark naked could anyone tell?

Which is the poor man and which is the wealthy,
If each was scrubbed clean and equally healthy.
If you looked at his spirit and each man was good,
Would you cast aspersions for poor neighborhood?

The poor are endowed with a virulent pride
That substandard housing and hunger can't hide.
They work, they love, they seek with long stride.
They have courage and hope; their children have cried.
To children the ghetto is a home filled with love,
A safe place from world cares that threaten and shove.

The bureaucrat sits in his black leather chair,
He plays chess with people and he doesn't care.
Political pawn is the meek social worker,
With sob sister heart, he pulls and he twists her.
Out in the field she's enthralled with the squalor,
She revels in misery and lack of the dollar.

It's too bad she misses the love and the joy.
She just can't accept the paper box toy,
As it serves well the child's simple needs,
She pries and intrudes and sprinkles her seeds.

Poor social worker who only sees trash.
Poor social worker who strives for more cash.
Poor social worker with small bleeding heart.
Poor social worker does every man's part.
Poor social worker in hip clothes and taste.
Poor social worker has majored in waste.
